Overheating in Homes

Recognising the increasing possibility of overheating in dwellings, the BRE has issued guidance to assist in the assessment of dwellings where susceptible individuals will be at risk of exposure to excess high temperatures. Co-authored by Healthier Housing partner David Ormandy, the guidance defines excess heat, its causes and potential preventative measures. It is accompanied by an assessment protocol intended to provide a process to determine the seriousness of a potential threat to health from exposure to high temperatures within a dwelling. It should be read in conjunction with the guidance document on excess heat.

The Guidance and Protocol coincide with the launch of the Met Office’s Heat-health Alert Service which warns of periods of high temperatures affecting the health of the public.
